MVD Proof of Citizenship Information

The Yuma County Recorder’s Office Voter Registration Division was recently notified of an inconsistency in our voter records. There are some registered voters in our state voter registration system that have been incorrectly designated as having provided the necessary Documentary Proof of Citizenship (DPOC) as required by ARS §16-121.01(C) when registering to vote in Arizona. This group of voters, through no fault of their own, do not have DPOC on file. The situation was caused by an error with the interface between the state voter registration system and the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division’s data.

In an effort to protect these voters’ voting status, the Recorder’s Office is in the process of mailing out notices. The notification will ask the voter to provide satisfactory DPOC to ensure they are able to vote in all future elections.

We want to assure our voters that if a voter does not take action, their status will not be affected at this time. However, this may change depending on future legislation. To ensure full participation in all future elections, we strongly encourage voters to complete their registration records by submitting documentation to our office. Citizenship documents provided to the Recorder’s office are kept confidential and used solely for voter registration purposes.

Documentation that satisfies the citizenship proof requirement is listed below. Voters are requested to provide one of these items to complete their record:

  • Copy of birth certificate from any U.S. state or territory
  • Copy of U.S. passport pages containing your name and passport number, or passport card
  • Copy of U.S. naturalization documents
  • Naturalization Certificate Number, Citizenship Certificate Number, or Alien Registration Number
  • Indian Census Number, Tribal Enrollment Number, Bureau of Indian Affairs Card Number or Tribal Treaty Card Number

Voters may scan or photograph their document(s) and email them to Yuma County Voter Registration or deliver them by mail or in person to Yuma County Recorder’s Office Voter Registration Division, 102 S Main Street, Yuma, AZ 85364.
