WINTER HOURS OF OPERATION

Dateland Transfer Site Open Sunday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

North Gila Transfer Site Open 7 days per week 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM

Tacna Transfer Site Open Friday and Saturday  7:30 AM to 5:00 PM

Wellton Transfer Site Open Sunday and Monday 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM

Waste Tire Facility Open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:30 AM to 3PM

Closed on New Years Day, Martin Luther King\Civil Rights Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Fourth Of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day

Load Size restrictions are:

  • Green waste loads can be no larger than 16 ft long, 8 ft wide, 5ft high or 640 cubic feet per day
  • All other loads can be no larger than standard pickup bed (8ft. long and no more than 2ft. above cab)

The responsibilities of the employees (attendants) are:

  • Monitor all solid waste received
  • Insure that no hazardous materials are being disposed of
  • Direct placement of waste in the appropriate containers
  • Assist in sorting/disposal of recyclables

Acceptable Materials:

  • Paint cans- if there is one inch or less of solid residue and the lid has been removed
  • Cooling appliances/units with or without Freon or compressors (items are recycled)
  • Window type a/c units only (units are all recycled))
  • Furniture
  • 55 gallon barrels (empty)
  • Household waste
  • Yard waste
  • Tires (no wheels, rims must be removed, 5 per person per year)

Unacceptable Materials:

  • Large chunks of concrete
  • Large automotive parts
  • Oil or fuel wastes
  • Contaminated soils/sand/rags
  • Paints thinners or solvents
  • Pesticides or insecticides
  • Poisons
  • Acids or caustics
  • Explosives
  • Sewage
  • Dead animals
  • Rotten meat

  Operations:
         
It is requested that the users of the FACILITIES separate items into the following categories:

  • Regular household waste
  • Items that can go in the compactor (see table below)
  • Yard trimmings
  • Recyclables (see list above)

Directions for disposal of unacceptable materials may be obtained from Site attendant or by contacting The County’s Department of Public Works (928) 341-2500

NOTE: Commercial, industrial or large loads of solid waste will not be accepted at the solid waste transfer sites and can be delivered to any of the following locations:

Yuma County Recycling Program
Recyclable Materials: (North Gila valley Site Only)

  • Automotive type batteries
  • All white goods are recycled (water heaters, refrigerators, freezers, washers, driers, window a/c units)
  • Clean cardboard (please clean out trash and debris)
  • Steel products (plate steel, heavy tubing, bumpers, hitches, wheels, etc.)
  • Painted aluminum IE: window screen frames, lawn chair frames, awnings, poles, etc.
  • Yard trimmings (yard trimmings/debris is ground and used for soil stabilizer)
  • Aluminum cans (all sites except Dateland)
  • Waste Tires/no wheels
  • White paper, colored paper, letters, junk mail (North Gila only)
  • All plastic containers with screw top lids or with the recyle symbol on the bottom (North Gila only)
  • Empty steel, tin amd aluminum cans (North Gila only)
  • Dry food boxes, paper bags, and cardboard (North Gila only)
  • Magazines, newspapers, and catalogs (North Gila only)
  • Salvaged construction materials except toilets (North Gila only)

Recyclable Materials: (Wellton and Tacna Sites Only)

  • Automotive type batteries
  • All white goods (water heaters, refrigerators, freezers, washers, driers, window a/c units)
  • Clean cardboard (please clean out trash and debris)
  • Aluminum cans (all sites except Dateland)
  • Waste Tires / no wheels
  • Newspaper

Recyclable Materials: (Dateland Site Only)

  • Automotive type batteries
  • All white goods (water heaters, refrigerators, freezers, washers, driers, window a/c units)
  • Waste Tires / no wheels

Equipment:
Each piece of equipment listed below has been placed at the transfer site for the acceptance of specific types of solid waste.

Compactor - Used for the disposal of compactable solid waste, (i.e., paper, milk cartons, food waste etc.) They are not to be used for the disposal of items such as ashes, tires, appliance, lumber, auto parts, steel, rock, styrofoam or brick. Compactors are used at the Tacna and Wellton facilities.

Green Waste Grinder - Used at the North Gila site only, for the grinding of tree trimmings, stumps up to 16 inches in diameter, and certain other yard waste.

Open Top Containers - Used for recycling of cardboard, heavy steel, painted aluminum, and all other acceptable household solid waste.

 Purpose

The Board of Supervisors had the transfer site facilities established in the mid 1980's for the needs and convenience of residents in the disposal of residential household solid waste. The Solid Waste Section is a unit of the Waste Management Division of the Public Works Department.


SAFETY CONCERNS- Due to safety concerns from the increased usage of all Yuma County Transfer facilities, our policies will be, “ALL CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF TWELVE (12) WILL BE REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE VEHICLE AT ALL TIMES WHILE AT THE SITE,” and "CUSTOMERS MUST BE OUT OF THE VEHICLE, ENGINE TURNED OFF, VEHICLE IN PARK GEAR, AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON BEFORE ANTONE IS ALLOWED BEHIND THE VEHICLE."
