Ability Assist Counseling Services

Emotional and Work-Life Counseling
The Hartford offers the professional support of Ability Assist to you, your spouse, and dependants, if you’ve enrolled in Group Disability coverage. The service includes up to three face-to-face emotional or work-life counseling sessions per occurrence per year for each of you and your family members.  Each individual can get counseling help for his/her own unique needs. Legal and financial counseling are also available by telephone during business hours.

 

Financial Information and Resources
Provides support for the complicated financial decisions you or your family members may face. Speak by phone with a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner on a wide range of financial issues.  Or talk to an attorney by phone about the issues that are important to you or your family members. Topics may include: Debt and bankruptcy Guardianship, buying a home, power of attorney, or divorce.

If you require representation, you’ll be referred to a qualified attorney in your area with a 25% reduction in customary legal fees thereafter.

Travel Assistance Services

Covered services for when traveling more than 100 miles from home for 90 days or less. with numerous 24/7 assistance centers, they are available to help you anytime, anywhere.  You and your dependents under the age of 26 are eligible for this service at home or while traveling.  (NOT road side assistance)

  • Pre-trip Information:Visa and passport requirements, Inoculation and immunization requirements, Foreign exchange rates., Embassy and consular referrals.
  • Emergency Personal Services: Emergency travel arrangements; helps locate lost items like luggage and personal possessions. Emergency cash advances you funds for emergency situations or bail advancement,  where permitted by law.
  • Emergency Medical Assistance: Medical referrals, helps you locate physicians, dentists and medical facilities worldwide. A professional case manager can be assigned to monitor your care and recommend intervention, medical transportation or repatriation as needed during a medical emergency.
  • Traveling companion assistance. If your hospitalization results in the loss of your companion's previously made travel arrangements, new arrangements will be made and funded.
  • Dependent children assistance. If your dependent children are left unattended due to your hospitalization, travel arrangements for their return home with a qualified escort if necessary will be made.
  • Visit by a family member or friend. While you're hospitalized or in critical condition for 7+ consecutive days, travel arrangements for a family member or friend to visit if deemed medically necessary will be made.
  • Emergency medical payments. Advances funds to cover on-site medical expenses. (Reimbursement is your personal expense.)
  • Return of mortal remains. The proper return of remains for burial are arranged and paid for in the event of death while traveling.
  • Medication and eyeglass assistance. Your prescription or eyeglasses will be replaced if lost, stolen or used up, subject to local law, whenever possible. (Payment of all related expenses is your personal responsibility.)

Identity Theft Protection Services
In addition to prevention education, The Hartford’s ID Theft Protection and Assistance service provides advice and help with administrative tasks resulting from identity theft.
