Volunteer with the Yuma County Public Health Services District – Medical Reserve Corps Unit #2859
The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a community-based, civilian volunteer program that helps build the public health infrastructure of communities nationwide. Each MRC unit is organized and trained to address various challenges from public health education to disaster response. MRC volunteers include medical and public health professionals and other community members without healthcare backgrounds who want to improve the health and safety of their communities.
Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Division (PHEPR)
The mission of the Yuma County Public Health Services District (YCPHSD) is to provide services that prevent epidemics and the spread of disease, protect against environmental hazards, promote and encourage healthy behaviors, and assure accessibility of health services. The PHEPR division was created to prepare and respond to public health threats and emergencies from various sources. While the immediate health threat to Yuma County residents and visitors is low, we need to be prepared. When an emergency occurs we will need the help of volunteers to provide services to the community.
Who can volunteer?
Local MRC volunteers are trained as part of a team and work within their community’s health, preparedness, and response infrastructure to help meet local medical and public health needs. Our goal is to identify non-medical and medical professionals who are willing to assist in a public health emergency. Community members without special medical training are welcome and can assist with vital administrative, logistics, and other essential support functions. In fact, most MRC volunteers have no medical training, simply the desire to assist their community during an emergency. National MRC and Yuma County requires volunteers are 18 years of age or older and will be required to pass a background check for liability purposes.
