Dog Licensing
In accordance with Ordinance No. 2012-01, all dogs three (3) months of age or over, kept, harbored, or maintained in Yuma County for at least thirty consecutive days, must hold a valid license and be vaccinated against rabies.
Yuma County has partnered with DocuPet to provide an enhanced pet licensing experience for residents. Your pet’s license now includes DocuPet’s free HomeSafe™ 24/7 lost pet service and designer license tags with personalization options.
When you register your pet in Yuma County, you will receive a unique license tag to attach to their collar. Our new licensing process with DocuPet allows residents to select a standard license tag at no additional charge or upgrade to one of DocuPet’s colorful designer tag styles for an additional fee.
Each DocuPet tag, standard or designer, doubles as a pet’s official Yuma County license and comes equipped with the HomeSafe™ 24/7 lost pet service, which relies on a dedicated full time dispatch staff and linked pet profiles to help get lost pets home quickly.

A valid rabies certificate is required to complete the licensing process. You must upload or present your certificates at time of purchase.
Below are the requirements for acceptable rabies vaccination documentation:
• Pet owner’s information
• Pet (dog) description and identifying information
• Vaccine manufacturer
• Vaccine serial number
• Date of vaccination
• Date the next vaccination is due
• Signature of a veterinarian licensed to practice in a U.S state or employed by a U.S governmental agency.
Please note: Signatures from veterinarians licensed in other countries, such as Mexico, are not accepted.
All licenses expire the day they were purchased, 1, 2, or 3 years in the future depending on the term of the license purchased, so long as the rabies vaccination remains valid for the duration of the chosen license. If your pet’s rabies vaccination expires prior to the selected license term, the license will expire on the rabies vaccination expiration date.

Animal Control Mission
Protection of people and animals in Yuma County's unincorporated areas. Our primary objective to encourage licensing and reunite owners with pets whenever possible. In cases where officers can give warnings or educate violators to prevent future occurrences, the officer will spare an animal the distress of impoundment or reduced the possibility of further violations.
If you live in an incorporated City or Town, they have their own Animal Control programs, their contact information is listed at the bottom of this page.
Licensing and Kenneling
While enforcement duties will be addressed by County Animal Control, licensing and kenneling duties will continue to be addressed through the Humane Society of Yuma. We will continue to work closely with the Humane Society to increase education regarding licensing and vaccination of pets and to ensure a smooth transfer of enforcement responsibilities.
