Yuma County Employee of the Year, Court Employee of the Year and Safety Excellence Award recipient to be announced
6 from Yuma County have been nominated for the 2017 Employee of the Year Award and 4 employees for the 2017 Superior Court Employee of the Year sponsored by the Yuma County Board of Supervisors. The County will also decide who the 2017 Safety Excellence Award recipient out of a field of 13 nominees.

The Yuma County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on September 6, 2017, at 9:00 a.m., Yuma Arizona time, in the Board of Supervisors Auditorium at 198 South Main Street, Yuma, Arizona. Such hearing is a requirement if Yuma County is to enter into a purchase agreement (the “Agreement”) to be secured by a pledge of the revenues from excise taxes that Yuma County now or hereafter levies, except for any taxes hereafter levied for an inconsistent purpose. The Agreement is estimated to be in a dollar amount of $2,420,000 and to have total estimated financing costs of not to exceed $2,928,000 including interest.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded Finance Department staff for Yuma County and the Yuma County Jail District with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for their diligence in publishing the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2016.

The Yuma County Board of Supervisors and County Administrator announced the 2016 Employee of the Year (EOY) and Safety Excellence Award winners during a Special Session of the Yuma County Board of Supervisors this evening, held at the Yuma Civic and Convention Center.

Residents can expect to hear more about a gold rush in the coming weeks as County Officials partner with the Yuma Sun and Paul Bensel Jewelers to give away seven gold nuggets to promote the upcoming Yuma County Sesquicentennial Celebration. While not actually made of gold, the nuggets are being crafted out of fine materials by Paul Bensel Jewelers and will have the look and feel of a solid gold nugget bearing the official Yuma County Sesquicentennial logo.

On Friday, November 7, 2014, Yuma County is hosting a Sesquicentennial Celebration that will take place beginning 4:00 p.m., at the Centennial Heritage Area at the Yuma Main Library, 2951 S. 21st Dr. Everyone is welcome to participate in an evening featuring music, dancing and food.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to Yuma County
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Yuma County and the Yuma County Jail District with The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for their diligence in publishing the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2013. The County’s Financial Services Department is no stranger to this honor as this is the 13th consecutive year for the main Yuma County CAFR and 11th consecutive year for the Jail District, the GFOA has bestowed this honor.

The Arizona Center for Civic Leadership announced Gilberto Villegas, Yuma County’s Deputy Director of Financial Services, has been selected to attend the Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy. This intensive program will convene September – November and requires the 35 participants to travel to different locations throughout the State for class work. Currently, there are only 150 Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Fellows.

Yuma County Administrator Robert Pickels announced today the appointment of Paul Melcher as the new Chief Deputy County Administrator for Yuma County. Today, Melcher was formally introduced to the Board of Supervisors during their regular session.

The Yuma County Office of Management and Budget will conduct the 2013 Yuma County Citizen Survey, a bi-annual customer service survey, to residents throughout Yuma County. The County is sending out the survey this week to randomly selected residents and will bear the Yuma County logo.

To streamline service to the unincorporated areas of Yuma County the Animal Control Division is partnering with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) by changing the DISPATCH PHONE NUMBER for service to 928-783-4427. This number will connect callers directly to the YCSO dispatch office. This change will be in effect MONDAY, July 1st, 2013. While the old phone number will be active for a period of time to make the transition easier, residents of the unincorporated areas of Yuma County are being asked to make a note of the change.

After recently becoming one of the first government agencies in the Nation to stream their Government channel (YUMA 77) to mobile devices, the Yuma County Communications Office has put the County ahead of the rush to h.264 technology by streaming Video on Demand (VOD) services the same way. The new streamlined media viewer enables users to have the same experience whether using a mobile or desktop platform. By pointing their PC or mobile device to: www.yumacountyaz.gov/vod anyone can check out archived meetings/videos.

The Yuma County Communications Office has announced the introduction of Friendly Uniform Resource Leaders (URLs), or web addresses, to the County's website. A friendly URL is a Web address that is easy to read and includes words that describe the content of the webpage. This type of URL can be "friendly" in two ways; by helping visitors remember the Web address and they can help describe the page to search engines.

The Yuma County Communications Department, in partnership with EarthChannel, introduces a new Internet video streaming format, MPEG4/h.264, optimized for viewing on mobile devices, as well as PCs and computers. The h.264 standard, already widely used in the cable and television industries, is also the video standard found on BluRay DVDs. Viewers with Apple iPhones/iPads and some other mobile devices will able to watch YUMA 77 LIVE, in real-time.

The application will be used to keep the community informed of current information effecting their everyday lives and will also compliment the County’s Emergency Management communication efforts.

Yuma County Administrator Robert Pickels announced today the successful launch of a new mobile website that allows you to access your County government from your mobile phone. The new site reformats the extensive information found at www.yumacountyaz.gov to make them accessible and easily navigable on just about any phone that offers web access. The site also makes it easier to access most all information on the regular website and critical information during an emergency; all on a smartphone or mobile device.
