ADOPTION
(Arizona Revised Statutes - Title 8)
Arizona law requires the Yuma County Attorney to assist and provide legal representation to prospective adoptive parents seeking to adopt minor children. There is no fee for the County Attorney’s legal representation related to adoption. However, the prospective adoptive parents may have to pay costs to other agencies in connection with the adoption or termination process. Such costs may include those for fingerprinting, service of process, social or home study, or publication.
Although the County Attorney will provide legal representation to families in termination of parental rights, that termination proceeding must be connected with an adoption. In other words, the County Attorney will not seek to terminate a parent’s parental rights without an adoption petition being filed with the Court for the child.
