Darren Simmons grew up in the Dallas Texas area. In 1983 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was eventually assigned to Yuma Marine Corps Air Station. In 1988 while still enlisted he became a volunteer Deputy with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office until 1990 when at the end of his enlistment he was hired full time as a deputy serving his first 14 years as a Deputy Sheriff stationed in the Wellton area--testing and promoting through the ranks of Senior Deputy, Sergeant and Watch Commander. Simmons was assigned as one of two Search and Rescue Coordinators for the County in 1994. Upon Darren’s promotion to Lieutenant in 2004 his responsibilities included supervision of the Foothills, Wellton and Martinez Lake Patrol Divisions within the Sheriff’s Office.
In November of 2015 Darren retired from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office with 27 years service and continues to volunteer his time as a Reserve Lieutenant to this day. Darren is married with two grown children, a granddaughter and two grandsons all of who reside in the East County, District 3 area.
