Primary Election Date Change

Post Date:02/10/2026 10:00 AM

Yuma County asks residents to be aware of an upcoming change in this year’s primary election, which will now be held July 21.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs signed a bipartisan bill on Feb. 6 to change the date of the 2026 primary and which permanently moves Arizona primaries to the second-to-last Tuesday in July. Previously, the date of the primary was the first Tuesday in August.

Qualified voters must be registered to vote 29 days prior to the election, meaning the voter registration deadline for the primary is June 22.

The new election date of July 21 may require some households to accordingly adjust their plan to vote in this year’s primary. That time of year can coincide with family vacations, as most area schools are still on summer break at that time. Those affected by the date change may wish to consider early voting if they do not already do so.

Early ballots will be mailed to members of the Active Early Voter List on June 24. In-person early voting will begin the same day.

Register to vote online at: servicearizona.com.

Check voter registration status at: my.arizona.vote.

Additionally, the primary election date change will affect filing deadlines for candidates running for office. These deadlines are available on the Election Information page of the Yuma County website.

The general election will be held Nov. 3.
