Residents invited to take survey as Yuma County updates hazard mitigation plan

Post Date:01/09/2026 10:30 AM

Yuma County Emergency Management is asking residents to complete a community survey to support an update to the Yuma County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The plan includes Yuma County and its participating jurisdictions: the cities of San Luis, Somerton and Yuma; the town of Wellton; and the Cocopah Tribe.

The survey collects input from residents across the county about past hazard experiences, perceived risks, flood zone awareness, hazard insurance coverage, priority focus areas and overall preparedness. Responses will be used to help ensure the updated plan reflects local conditions and community needs.

The survey is available in English and Spanish. A language option can be selected at the top left of the survey page.

The Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan is a planning document required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. It identifies community vulnerabilities to natural hazards and outlines strategies to reduce long-term risk to life and property. The plan helps strengthen resilience across communities and helps maintain eligibility for future hazard mitigation funding.

Community input is a key part of the update process. Local knowledge about hazards, resources and coordination needs can help inform mitigation strategies that support individual communities and neighboring jurisdictions that share infrastructure and ecosystems.

Residents are encouraged to share the survey link with family, friends and colleagues.

The survey is also available on the Yuma County website under the Emergency Management section:
