Mendez named Yuma County Library District Director
Lisa Mendez has been appointed as the new director the Yuma County Library District, announced by County Administrator Susan Thorpe.
She will be the 10th person to lead the library system since Yuma County library services began in 1921.
Mendez had been serving as interim director since May 2019 following the retirement of previous director Susan Evans and was selected following a national search.
County Administrator Susan Thorpe said “Lisa has proven her leadership and management abilities in many ways during her service as interim director as well as deputy director. I look forward to working with Lisa as she and her team continue to bring new ideas and innovative programs to serve the citizens and library patrons of Yuma County.”
Mendez joined the Yuma County Library District in 2010 as an Assistant Circulation Supervisor. She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and earned her master's degree in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University.
“Libraries play such an important part of the quality of life in any community and I am excited for the opportunity to serve Yuma County in this positon, and to continue to guide the libraries into the future,” said Mendez.
The County's library system includes the Main Library, 7 neighborhood branches, and other services. It is a leading resource center for information, collaboration, learning and enjoyment.
