5 Applicants Being Considered for Justice of the Peace Pro Tem, comments from public sought

The public is asked for comments on 5 applicants for Justice of the Peace Pro Tem after Judge Erin Farrar’s appointment to the Yuma County Superior Court. The applicants are:

  • Ruth Gonzales, a Yuma County Probation Officer
  • Eliza Johnson, an Assistant Attorney General
  • Nathaniel Sorenson, a Deputy Yuma County Attorney
  • Pamela Walsma of Hunt, Walsma and Gale, PC
  • Darci Weede of Mary Katherine Boyte, P.C.

The Commission on Justice Court Appointments will review the applications, hear comments and interview the candidates at a public meeting at 9:00 a.m. on June 15, 2019. The meeting will be held in Room 2046 of the Yuma County Justice Center.

Citizens may address the Commission on the day of the meeting or send written comments to Kathy Schaben,Court Administrator or to 250 W. Second Street, Yuma, Arizona 85364. It is not necessary to submit multiple copies of written comments, and email is preferred. Comments must be received no later than noon on June 14, 2019 to be considered. Anonymous comments cannot be considered.

After the interviews, the Commission will recommend at least three nominees for the opening to Presiding Judge David Haws, who will appoint the new judge.
