COUNTY OF THE YEAR! BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF ARIZONA AND JAKE STEINFELD AWARD $10,000 TO YUMA COUNTY HEALTH DISTRICT FOR MAKING ARIZONANS HEALTHIER
The Yuma County Public Health District took center stage being named “County of the Year” during the “Get Fit. Don’t Quit. Spotlight Awards 2019” held at the Talking Stick Resort Arena. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ) and fitness icon Jake Steinfeld of Body by Jake made the presentation today to Yuma County Health Director Diana Gomez recognizing the departments “Body Walk.” interactive program and the county wide physical activity campaign, Be Active Yuma County! The $10,000 award will go toward supporting further health initiatives in Yuma County.
“We strive to provide educational programming that is interactive and inclusive. ‘Body Walk’ and the ‘Be Active Yuma County Campaign!’ are examples of a successful collaborative community initiatives meant to increase opportunities for Yuma County residents to lead healthy and physically active lifestyles”, stated Diana Gomez, Yuma County Chief Health Officer.
BCBSAZ and Jake Steinfeld launched “Get Fit. Don’t Quit” to empower Arizonans to live a healthier lifestyle through fun, and engaging videos and tips on how to be more active, stay motivated, eat better, and live well. The program is built around the idea that small steps can lead to a big payoff, and teaches people positive changes they can make in their day-to-day lives to support long-term wellness.
Overall there were awards for Business of the Year, County/City of the Year, Tribal Nation of the Year, and School District of the Year. Each won at $10,000 prize. One Arizona school was also awarded a brand-new $100,000 gym for the Fall 2019 school year.
