On September 26, 2017, Yuma County will be part of a celebration of National Voter Registration Day. It is all part of a 50-state effort to register voters before Election Day this November. The Yuma County Recorder’s Office will provide streamlined access to getting registered for any eligible Yuma County resident at the Yuma County Recorder’s Office, 192 S. Maiden Lane, in Historic Downtown Yuma.

“Last year, millions of Americans didn’t vote because they missed a registration deadline or didn’t know how to register,” explains Robyn Stallworth Pouquette, Yuma County Recorder. “National Voter Registration Day is a day of action before state deadlines begin in October and allows us to get a jump start on registration efforts for next year.”

With important local elections approaching and 2018 local, state, and federal primaries months away, every eligible American voter should exercise his/her right to be heard at the ballot box this year and next. National Voter Registration Day is the right place to start by getting registered.

That is why communities across the country are planning to use National Voter Registration Day to increase voter participation.

The Yuma County Recorder’s Office invites all eligible individuals to visit the office at 197 S. Main Street in Yuma to register to vote and have any questions answered by qualified staff.  As a casual open house, staff of the Recorder’s Office is excited to meet new registrants and hope their visit to the office on that day will encourage voter engagement and participation.

Founded in 2012, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right – the right to vote. More than two million Americans have registered to vote on this day since the inaugural National Voter Registration Day.
