Position definitions

"Open Until Filled" positions: applications [first (1st) review] are screened at the end of ten working days. Thereafter, applications are screened approximately every ten working days until the position is filled. Applicants should file an application as soon as possible, because these positions will only remain open until the needs of the agency are met. When an agency determines enough applications have been received (after it has met the open "ten working days" requirement) the position may be closed immediately at the end of that business day.

"Open Continuous" positions: applications are accepted continuously and kept on file until a position becomes vacant (eligibility list). The applications are processed when a request from the agency is received. The agency fills the position from the pool of applicants meeting the minimum requirements. Applications for open continuous position vacancies may be filed at any time.

"Close Date" positions: applications are accepted for ten working days, at the end of ten working days the position closes. The applicants fulfilling the minimum qualifications are chosen for the interview or testing process. The one with the highest score is offered the position.

"Promotional" positions: applications are accepted for five working days, at the end of five working days the position closes. Promotional positions are open to YUMA County employees only.  They may be Department specific, or may be open to all County departments. The applicants fulfilling the minimum qualifications are chosen for the interview or testing process. The one with the highest score is offered the position.

A resume will not be accepted in lieu of the official application form. Applicants are encouraged to submit resumes with the official application forms, as resumes submitted at the time of application will be referred to the hiring authority.

Applicants are responsible for promptly notifying the Human Resources department of any changes of address and/or phone number.

Application materials must be filled out completely and must clearly show that the qualification requirements are met. Volunteer experience will be considered if listed in the job history portion of an application, with all information completed. All information submitted in application materials is subject to investigation and verification. Any false statements or omissions may subject the applicant to disqualification or dismissal.

Substance abuse testing: the County of Yuma promotes a drug and alcohol free work environment. Applicants testing positive for illegal drugs or unauthorized prescription drugs will not be hired by the County.

Veterans' preference: Veterans must submit a copy of their DD-214 or equivalent showing dates of service and honorable discharge along with the official application materials by the final filing date to receive preference on certain tests which may be administered. Any materials received after the final filing date will not be considered. Postmarks are not acceptable. We must have your application in our office on or before the closing date of the position.

Immigration and Reform Act of 1986: all offers of employment with Yuma County are contingent upon verification of U.S. citizenship or the right to work in the United States. Immigration law requires that all employees hired after November 6, 1986 must provide proof of work eligibility. Applicants will be required to submit original copies of a document from the lists of acceptable documents set down by the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services.
