Annual Report Preparation

The Adult probation report fulfills nearly all of the best practices criteria

County Departments are encouraged to prepare annual reports for review during work sessions with the Board of Supervisors. The reports would also be available for review by other officials and general public.

The Office of Management and Budget offers training to County Departments so that reports are prepared consistent with best practices.

Following are several links that departments may find useful:

1. Annual Report Preparation Training-Power Point Presentation (December 1, 2006) [PPT]
2. "Reporting Performance Information: Suggested Ciriteria for Effective Communication"
   This is a book prepared by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board; it provides a detailed explanation, complete with examples, of the 16 criteria to be met to comply with best practices.
3. 16 Best Practices Criteria [DOC]
   This sheet summarizes on one page the criteria that are fully described in the book described above.
4. Annual Performance Report of the City of Bellevue, Washington [PDF]
   This is an example of an award- winning report.
5. Minnesota Milestones Report, prepared by the State of Minnesota.
   The report provides a good example of moving from general goals statements to specific mesurable indicators of performances.
6. Yuma County Adult Probation Annual Report, 2004-2005. (Vol1, Vol2) [PDF]
   Of all those County departments currently preparing annual reports, Adult Probation's comes very close to meeting all of the best practices criteria.
