Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to Yuma County
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded Finance Department staff for Yuma County and the Yuma County Jail District with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for their diligence in publishing the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2016. The County’s Financial Services Department is no stranger to this honor as this is the 15th consecutive year the GFOA has bestowed this honor for the main Yuma County CAFR and the 14th consecutive year for the Jail District.
This department was selected and recognized by an impartial panel for the way they presented the financial statements in the CAFR, demonstrating the highest standards of financial accounting and full disclosure.
This award is considered one of the nation’s highest forms of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The CAFR is presented in a manner designed to fairly set forth the position and results of operations of the County as measured by the financial activity of its various funds. All disclosures necessary to enable the reader to gain an understanding of the County’s financial affairs are included. There are three sections to the CAFR: the Introductory, the Financial and the Statistical Sections.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, Illinois and Washington D.C.
Both reports, along with other reporting requirements, can be found under the Financial Services Department on the county's website, or visit the Yuma County Administration Building, 198 S. Main Street and any Yuma County Library.
