The Yuma County Board of Supervisors today concluded two days of special meetings to discuss the recommended budget for the next fiscal year. The budget recommended by County Administrator, Robert Pickels, called for a freeze on the amount of property taxes to be levied and collected; however the county wide drop in the assessed value of properties would still have caused a tax rate increase just to collect the same amount in taxes for next year. The Board of Supervisors expressed a priority of not raising the tax rate or the levy for next year, if at all possible. In the end, there was a consensus among the Board to maintain the existing tax rate into the next fiscal year, which will result in a reduction in property taxes for County residents.
Arizona Western College has collaborated with the Coalition of Arizona County Code Enforcement Officials (CACCEO), an affiliate group of the Arizona Association of County Planning Directors (AACPD), to offer an online, statewide “County Code Enforcement Certification Course” to Arizona county code enforcement officials.
Yuma County officials are revisiting certain voting precinct boundaries in order to resolve any discrepancies occurring as a result of the County’s supervisor district boundary changes and the recent approval by the Department of Justice of the redrawing Legislative and Congressional District lines adopted by the Independent Redistricting Committee. The two, being completed by different entities, have inadvertently created some unintended discrepancies.
